Decorating our Holiday Mantel Living Room Christmas Decor
Hi everyone and welcome back to decorating with a happy hot home. I'm so happy to have you here this is part two of a decorating video that I started last week where we were decorating our sunroom slash living room um this could be obviously any room in your house but I am showing you how in my previous article.
Decorations for Christmas
I decorated our Christmas tree and in this article, I'm going to show you how I decorate our mantel again, I'm so happy to have you here let's get started in Prior years when I decorated our mantle I had the Garland sit on top of the cover but this year I'm trying something a little bit different because I wanted to sit more on the face of the mantle on the very front of it and have a cascading look and that's really not that easy to do without having something for it to catch for it to attach to and in this case.
I am using chicken wire and
I am using Command hooks to attach it to
the mantle
so our mantle is rather large it's about
an eight-foot long mantle maybe about a
foot deep but it also has those two bump
outs on the side that I'm sure most of
your mantles don't have so it does make
attaching the chicken wire a little
trickier for me but I think in your
instance it would probably be a little
bit easier
so I'm going to start my mantle design
by putting on my first layer of Garland
I have two six foot long pieces of uh
green Garland and as you can see it
Cascades down really nicely it hangs and
it has this droopy look it's why I love
it so much I'll try to link it if I can
find it if it's still available it's a
little on the pricey side but I think
it's worth it the color is beautiful and
I use it all over my house and I love
the way it just drapes down the center
the front on each side and it is draping
a little nicer because I do have that
chicken wire for it to stick to usually.
Christmas Decorations Ideas
I can't Cascade it like that using green floral wire I am attaching the first layer of Garland to the chicken wire on the left middle and the right sides so the second layer of Garland is frosted and I am attaching two nine-foot pieces one on each side of Garland on top of my first layer of Garland so what I do like about this frosted Garland is that it is very flexible and pliable but as you can see it wasn't fully cooperating with me and I'm not going to pretend that I didn't struggle to be you know a single person having to handle two nine-foot pieces of Garland by myself it wasn't being terribly Cooperative but I did get it to work and I think the end result looks great but there was a little bit of struggling going on so this is what we have so far um but I am going to need to attach it as I'm showing you right there it pops up so it does need to be secured down so using the floral wire.
I attach the
two pieces of Garland to the chicken
wire just to make sure that it's really
secure and I do that throughout the
Garland in several areas on the left and
the right side and as I'm doing it I'm
fluffing the second layer of Garland
so at this stage I decided that I wanted
an additional first layer of Garland to
hang down the side under the second
layer of Garland so I decided to add a
couple more pieces one to the left and
to the right just so that the piece
pieces that hang down over the sides
also have that beautiful Green Layer of
Garland behind it and I am securing it
with chicken wire because they do tend
to separate as they hang over the sides, so I just think that adding just looks
really nice not necessary but I just
thought it looked really nice
so I've attached that second layer of
greenery or the first layer of greenery
sorry to the left side of the mantle and
now I am just securing the two pieces
together with some floral wire.
Living Room Christmas Decor
So the Garland is looking great I'm loving the way it's looking and now I'm adding some embellishments to it so I have these frosted uh Berry picks and they have these really long stems so I don't need to secure them with any wire into the Garland they just very easily stick in and stay there and I just love the look of them they have a little bit of snow on them and they just look so natural and they add that Perfect pop of red to the Garland and they just look like they belong with a Garland as something you would see in nature as if if you were walking outside during winter time thank you so what I'm going to do now adds a little bit of Garland to the top of the design so I have that beautiful green cascading layer on the bottom I have the Frosted Garland in the middle and now I'm just adding a little bit on the top just to give the top of it a fuller look similar to the bottom.
I'm
not going to add a lot of it because I
don't want it to take away from the
cascading effect that it has and if I do
add too much of it it'll look too linear
so I'm just going to add a little bit in
select places to the top of it
so the Garland I'm adding to the top is
different than the one in the bottom it
is the same type of
Greenery it is Cypress but I have taken
a bunch of it and I've just cut it into
little pieces and I'm adding it very
selectively foreign and now I'm going to add three red bows
they are velvet bows and velvet I just
find to be the richest material you can
use in Christmas decorating and I always
use it if possible it's just so bright
and vibrant and always looks beautiful
I also have a bow tutorial on how to
make these beautiful bows that I will
link here in case you are interested in
making your own bows
so you've probably been wondering this
whole video how on Earth am I going to
hide that chicken wire well very easy
since it is a very thin gauge.
I can just very easily roll it up so that it's not visible under the Garland the pieces that are hanging just roll them up it's very flexible and it works great another option if you want is you can cut it away cut off the pieces that are visible but again it's not necessary all you need to do is just roll it up and it it doesn't show and no one will ever know so now for the mantle Decor it really needs very little because the Garland is so beautiful and probably too much would just take away from the look so I'm just adding a couple of reindeer with a little velvet tied around their decks to Elf or not to elf some people love them some people hate them I happen to really like them so I'm going to add a couple little guys underneath of my lamps so I'm going to add the finishing touches to the mantle design and then I'm going to turn on the lights and let you enjoy the mantle fully lit if you like the video I hope you will like share and subscribe and I will be back on Thursday with a full room reveal I have a couple things that I'm still working on I'm going to do a full reveal on Thursday along with an evening view of the room.
